About Us
It is true to say that Aviation & Binoculars started many decades ago with a young boys dream of flying aircraft of all types. Having grown up in the waning years of Britain’s golden era of jet planes, air shows still had enough thrill to send shivers down the spine. Jet fighters and bombers would mix the skies with Spitfires and Lancaster’s. Fast forward thirty years and a conversation about ejection seats rekindled emotions along with a first purchase of an RAF Canberra seat cemented a life long passion for aviation furniture design pieces.
Martin Baker ejection seats were the first true love, the early 1940’s to 1970’s engineering show cased hand made British engineering at its absolute finest.
Our ejection seats are a thing of beauty which when mounted on a bespoke signature base and either hand polished or chromed become an instantly recognisable thing of style.
Where else could a conversation be had about the RAF’s V Bomber nuclear fleet (Vulcan, Valiant and Victor) and learning that each had a unique ejection seat MK to collect.
The ‘hobby’ grew and quickly expanded into collecting militaria and the birth of a second love, Military binoculars.
At Aviation & Binoculars we have what could be considered one of the largest collection of World War 2 binoculars and Cold War Binoculars. War time developments saw the humble yet practical binocular developed into a highly effective optical device. With world renowned names such as Zeiss, Nikon, Toko and ross all pioneering yet more inventive ways to maximise performance. With our skilled craftsman we fully service, polish and mount these rare incredible objects making them not just functional but stunning to look at as any piece of ‘man cave decor’.
It soon became clear that the world of Aviation & Binoculars contained many hidden treasures, we have strived to be creative in taking a thing of historical significance and functionality and making it useful in the modern age. From drinks cabinets to tables and lamps, our aviation furniture is only limited by our own dreams.
If it showcases the piece and allows us to pass on its unique history and story(often involving incredibly brave men and women) then we are happy to do so.
