SMLE Rifle
WW1 Passchendaele British Short Magazine Lee-Enfield SMLE Rifle
The Short Magazine Lee- Enfield is a bolt action repeating rifle that served with the British Army during the first half of the 20th Century. The Short Magazine Lee Enfield (SMLE) featured a ten-round .303 box magazine which was loaded manually from the underside.
A skilled soldier could rapid fire 20-30 aimed shots a minute, making the Lee-Enfield the fastest military bolt action rifle of the day.
This is a stunning example of this historic firearm that was recovered from the World War One Passchendaele battlefield. This battle on the Western Front was also known as the Third Battle of Ypres and was fought in appalling conditions for control of the ridges south of the Belgian city Ypres.
The rifle was ground recovered and is deactivated by condition. A rare and highly unusual relic, an in keeping period bayonet has been added making this a must for any collector or as a display piece.
Here at Aviation and Binoculars we pride ourselves on having one of the widest selection of historically interesting artefacts available to purchase. Check out the full range of military collectables including an authentic Hurricane control column and Messerschmitt ME109 pilots grip.
