Description

WW2 USAAF B17G Flying Fortress 44 -6504 – Wright Cyclone Radial Engine Coffee table – unique and rare aircraft relic from the 303rd Bomber Group.

This is a crash recovered Wright Cyclone engine from one of the most historic B17G’s of the Second World War

There is loads of history detailing the brave crewmen, their bombing missions as well as their rescue in the Cheviot Hills in Northumberland.

The crew were rescued by two shepherds and their sheepdog Sheila. Due to the horrific weather conditions and bravery shown by the shepherds they were awarded the Empire Medal and the sheepdog was awarded the Dickens medal (animal equivalent of the Victoria Cross) the first time this was awarded to a non military animal.

Well worth checking out the back story on the internet, the engine was recovered from the mountain side as part of an authorised recovery. It was displayed in a local museum before coming into my possession.

The engine has been professionally mounted on a bespoke cradle and a toughened glass table top added.

A truly incredible piece of practical furniture allowing the historic engine to be seen in all its glory.
